SPURRED BUTTERFLY PEA/10 seeds per pack
Centrosema virginianum (Spurred Butterfly Pea)
I’ve been attempting to cultivate this plant for years. After obtaining a few seeds, I sowed them one at a time. Although they successfully germinated, they would wither once transplanted during hot summer months. Last year, I took a chance by planting the last seed I had, and voilà! 😍 It not only survived the entire summer but also began blooming this season. I’m thrilled that it adapted well to the soil and weather.
Persistence pays off—trying until you succeed has been proven here.
Centrosema virginianum, commonly known as Spurred Butterfly Pea or Wild Blue Vine, is a perennial. It belongs to the legume family (Fabaceae) and is characterized by its trailing or climbing vines. The plant typically features compound leaves with three leaflets and produces showy, butterfly-shaped flowers.
Spurred Butterfly Pea is often found in open woodlands, along roadsides, and in disturbed areas. It plays a role in soil conservation due to its ability to fix nitrogen, enriching the soil. While not as widely cultivated as some other pea species, it contributes to local ecosystems and can be appreciated for its delicate flowers in natural settings.
