TURKEY CRAW BEAN/10 seeds per pack
This dual-purpose pole bean produces 4-6" pods that are delicious when young, green, and crisp. When used as a dry bean, they have a sweet, rich, buttery, and meaty taste and texture. The seeds are beautifully frosted in brown and tan. Traditionally, these vines were often grown in cornfields.
The story goes that in the 1800s, a hunter—believed to be an enslaved African American man—discovered this seed in the craw of a turkey he brought home. We would love to learn more about his story.
The Turkey Craw Bean has been recognized by Slow Food as an outstandingly tasty, culturally significant, and endangered heirloom from Virginia, North Carolina, and Tennessee. It's listed in their Ark of Taste, encouraging everyone to take action to protect this valuable bean.
